about

Written in 1971 and dedicated to Malcolm Goldstein. "Koan" is one of ten "Postal Pieces": scores which fit on a postcard and (to quote Tenney himself) is: "concerned with the perceptual effects of an absolutely linear and predictable formal process—involving a bowed tremolo progressing through a series of microtonal intervals on progressively higher pairs of strings".
